Dance for a Difference
LHS Difference Makers plan their annual Dance for a Difference to raise money for children battling life-threatening illnesses.
On Sunday, Feb. 26, from noon to 4pm, the Liberty Difference Makers are hosting Dance for a Difference in the main gym. They’re raising money to donate to the University of Iowa Dance Marathon to support kids with life-threatening illnesses. Activities at Dance for a Difference will include euchre and poker tournaments, lip sync challenges and dancing. There will also be a DJ and food. If you didn’t order a shirt, admission is $10 at the door.
Additionally, three Liberty staff members will be sharing their personal stories about childhood cancer.
Gracie Hennings, 11, is a member of the Liberty Difference Makers. “[Seeing] the kids impacted by cancer and the families that were impacted by pediatric cancer [was so sad]. I just feel like [we’re] making a difference.”
The club has been working on the event since early January. To organize Dance for a Difference, they go around town and get sponsorships from many companies. They received a sponsorship from Peppercorn to donate food to the event.
“Last year, we raised about $20,000. So [we’re trying to raise] as much as possible,” said Hennings.
There are over 200 dancers signed up to participate; last year there were only 75.
The Liberty Difference Makers are excited to see staff, students and community members dancing for a cause.
