As the 2024-25 school year comes to a close, students are looking ahead to what’s next. Many students will be excited to learn they now have more choices when building their schedules, as Liberty will be adding three new Advanced Placement (AP) classes for the 2025-26 school year.
While reading through course offerings, it’s important to note two things. First, teachers have not been assigned classes for next year; therefore, students will not know who is teaching their classes when they sign up. Additionally, if there are not enough students registered for a course, the course will not be offered for that year. With this information in mind, students should register for any class that interests them, regardless of their peers’ past experience.
Language Arts
Liberty will be adding AP English Language (AP Lang) for the upcoming school year. In this new course, students will analyze nonfiction texts and use them to build their own cohesive arguments.
Similarly, Composition I & II teaches students how to evaluate nonfiction texts for analysis-based writing assessments. However, since Composition is a dual-credit course, the selection of texts and assignments will vary slightly from AP Lang.
AP English Literature is another AP English offering. It has a very similar structure to AP Lang, but analyzes fiction works instead of nonfiction texts.
Science
The science department will also be adding a new course, AP Physics C: Mechanics. This new course is similar to Liberty’s current courses (AP Physics 1 and 2), but it is geared more toward students interested in engineering. Since much of AP Physics C’s curriculum is calculus-based, AP Calculus AB or BC is a co-requisite to this course. It is important to note that AP Physics C is a more specialized version of a standard AP Physics course; therefore, it’s not intended to be taken in tandem with the other AP Physics classes.
In addition, a host of other AP sciences will continue to be offered: AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Environmental Science, AP Physics 1 and AP Physics 2.
Electives
As a new elective AP course, AP Capstone Seminar will be offered for the upcoming school year. This AP offering is focused heavily on research techniques, as students focus on synthesizing information for research papers and oral or visual presentations. Since this course is not confined to a specific core subject, Liberty counselors and administrators are still unsure which department will teach the class. Most likely, either the English or Social Studies department will house AP Capstone Seminar.
Similarly to years past, AP Music Theory and AP Art & Design will be offered as AP elective courses.
Social Studies, World Languages & Mathematics
There are no new AP classes that will be offered in these subject areas for the 2025-26 school year, but there are still many options for APs in these departments.
Social studies APs offered for next school year will be: AP U.S. History, AP Human Geography, AP Government and Politics, AP Psychology and AP Economics: Micro & Macro.
In the world languages department, APs will be offered in both Spanish and French.
As for math, the AP courses offered for 2025-26 will be: AP Pre-Calculus, AP Statistics, AP Computer Science A, AP Calculus AB and AP Calculus BC.
For more information on any of Liberty’s AP courses, refer to ICCSD’s Program of Studies. If students have more specific questions or would like to make changes to their 2025-26 schedules, they should email their school counselor directly.
