Bolt Weekend Recap

This past weekend was a big one for Bolt athletics. Wrestling had a meet Thursday night, girls basketball played Friday. The Varsity Dance Team had state and Boys Basketball played Saturday.

Wrestling

Waterloo West came to Liberty on Thursday night. The Bolts lost the match 72-8. With a couple of injuries and a couple of people sick, the Bolts had to forfeit multiple matches. Our two wins were an 8-2 win by Jaxson Morris and a technical fall [16-0] by Elijah Terwilliger. The Bolts look to take down Kennedy in their next meet on Thursday, December 12th, at Liberty at 7 pm.

“We fought hard Thursday and will continue too. The trick to winning more matches overall is gonna be running the basics relentlessly and turning up the heat,” said sophomore Charlie Hall.

Girls Basketball

The Girls took the trip to Cedar Rapids Washington on Friday night. The Bolts fell in a hard fought game 35-69. Leading scorers for the lightning were seniors Sam McPherson, 13, and Isabel Smith, 12. Freshman Keiko Ono-Fullard had a team high rebounds with 5. The Bolts play again tonight Tuesday, December 10th, at Liberty at 7 pm vs Dubuque Senior.

“We are doing good as a team so far. We have a lot of young kids on the team, and are still trying to figure out each others strengths and weaknesses,” said senior, Sam McPherson.

Dance Team

The Varsity Dance Team took the trip to Des Moines for the ISDTA State Championship. They participated in class 6 Jazz and placed 3rd. While being in class 11 in Pom and are ranked number 1 in the state. They will now prepare for regionals and nationals.

“We moved up a class this year so the competition was a lot harder but we had a lot of fun and we worked so hard!” said senior Megan Colony.

“The team dynamic has been really positive this year, the dance team is like a family and everyone is very motivating,” said freshman Sarah Smith.

Boys Basketball

The Boys played here at Liberty on Saturday vs Center-Point Urbana. The scoring from game 1 ran right into Saturday. The Bolts won 58-37! Once again Ira Hazeltine led the scoring with 16 points and Kelby Telander added 11. Senior Andre Brandon added 8 rebounds. The Boys travel up to Waterloo this Friday, December 13th, at 7 to take on Waterloo East in a MVC matchup.  

“The team’s atmosphere has been great, we are winning and having fun. We just have to keep grinding and it will continue,” said senior Andre Brandon.
