Volleyball Regional Preview
The Bolts volleyball team continues their road to state this Thursday, October 26 at the regional game.
Our own Liberty Volleyball team will play their first regional match this Thursday, October 21. Within the regular season, the girls finished with an astonishing 32 wins and only 2 losses. They have won the last 24 out of 25 matches and are just coming off winning the Mississippi Valley Conference Tournament. Last season, the Bolts volleyball finished the regular season with a record of 20 wins and two losses. In a very memorable state tournament run, they came up just short in the championship game, ultimately losing to Ankeny one set to three. Coming back stronger than ever, the girls have cruised through their schedule and are ready to win two more games and make themselves a state qualifier for the third year in a row.
With their amazing regular-season record, the volleyball team has secured the first seed and a first-round bye in the regional tournament. How the regional tournament works is that there are five teams paired together and assorted into a bracket. The winner of the bracket will automatically make it to the state tournament. With the first seed, Liberty will have to only play two games to win the bracket. For their first matchup, they will play the winner of Cedar Rapids Washington (5-28) and Davenport North (0-21). If they win that game, they will advance to the regional championship. Where they will play the winner of Muscatine (14-17) and Cedar Rapids Jefferson (9-25).
The girls will play at home on Thursday and need the support of the Liberty community. The game will start at 7 pm and the student section will be wearing all white. If the Bolts win that one, they will play in the regional championship on Tuesday, October 26.
