Rosie’s Reviews: The Best Hot Chocolate
On this edition of Rosie’s Reviews we decide how to make the best hot chocolate
Over the years, we have all indulged in our favorite winter drink. With an array of toppings to choose from spanning from sprinkles to whipped cream. But with all those toppings, you need a base. There has always been an ongoing debate: Water or Milk, Swiss Miss or Ghirardelli. Well here’s the best hot chocolate mix and topping in your favorite reviewers opinion.
Swiss Miss Marshmallow
Hands down the best hot chocolate mix known to mankind. It contains just the right amount of creamy chocolate to not too sweet ratio. That makes it difficult for any other brand to even compare. But here’s where the real question comes into play: Milk or no milk? For many people this is a no-brainer. Milk adds many important characteristics to your cup of cocoa including protein, creaminess, and overall a better taste. But for our readers who are lactose intolerant this poses an issue. My personal favorite milk alternative for hot chocolate is vanilla almond milk. It has the same creamy consistency that is desired with milk and a similar taste.
Toppings
We all know that hot chocolate isn’t complete without toppings. But what is the best? This one is harder to tell. Honestly it depends on the mood you are in. On the go? Marshmallows may be the best bet as they don’t make a mess. Staying at home watching a movie? Treat yourself to a generous amount of whipped cream on top.
And lastly, here’s a step by step on how to make the best cup of hot chocolate:
- Heat up milk or milk alternative in a mug (make sure there is room at the top)
- Stir in your Swiss Miss Marshmallow into the mug with your liquid
- Lay a generous layer of fluffy marshmallows on top
- Top it all off with a nice swirl of your favorite whipped cream
- Sprinkle hot cocoa powder on top
