
Last weekend, on April 19, 2026, a large fight broke out that led to a shooting outside of the Iowa City Pedestrian Mall on the 100 Block of East College Street.
The Ped Mall is a popular area in downtown Iowa City, home to several restaurants, shops, bars, and hotels.
According to the press release, a call was dispatched at 1:46 a.m. in response to a report of a large fight, stabbing and gunshots. Soon after, additional calls were made at 1:50 a.m. to report an ongoing fight.
Iowa City Police believe there are five people of interest and have asked the public to help identify them.
The ICPD has released a photo of the five individuals they believe are tied to the Sunday morning shooting.
Multiple videos have been surfacing on the internet with different views of when the shooting occurred, with a clear view of a large fight.
Five victims have been identified in the shooting. Two victims were released from the hospital on Monday morning. There are three other people still in the hospital as of today. Two are in stable condition, and one is in critical condition.
UI President Barbara Wilson sent out a statement at 6:40 a.m. to the University of Iowa community members regarding the shooting, encouraging community members to support one another.
Following the shooting, Iowa City community members gathered for a peace vigil Monday evening to support the Iowa City community during this difficult time.
