Liberty Football Starts the Road to the Dome

Jeff Gordon and the Liberty High Football Team have seen big improvements in their second season as a varsity team. They have shown that all those mornings in the weight room has really paid off. The team has had success through their run game behind senior Kaleb Williams and junior Max Tafolla. Tafolla leads the team with 182 carries with 1,052 yards becoming Liberty’s first-ever 1,000 yard rusher. Senior wide receiver Ben Houselog has shown major improvement from last year and leads the team with 300 receiving yards. The Lightning’s defense has also shown huge growth with senior Brian Lively leading the herd with 12 tackles for loss, 8 of them being sacks. Building off a 3-6 record last year, Liberty finished with a 7-2 record in the regular season, including big wins over Davenport Assumption and Clear Creek Amana. The Lightning looks to extend their season and make a run in their first-ever playoff appearance. They start their run on Friday, November 1st, at 7:00 PM in Solon for a class 3A quarterfinal matchup against Solon. The Spartans finished their regular season with an undefeated record of 9-0.
